Mr. Mahabaleshwar Hegde

Mahabaleshwar Hegde famous as M. G. Hegde has born on June 6 1952, in Maneer, Kumta Taluk from Uttar Kannada District known as the ‘Kashmir of Karnataka’. The nature itself had a musical influence on his childhood but the main influence came from his father Lt. Govind Hegde who was playing Mridanga and also a Yakshagana singer and Mother Ganga who is a folk singer.

After getting his Bachelor Degree in A. V. Baliga Arts and Science College Kumta, he went to Mumbai in search of a good career in 1972. Staying in his sister’s house he joined a tennis ball manufacturing company as production manager. He used his free time to learn music for eight years under Shri Dilip Ghotkar who was a famous harmonium player and vocalist. In 1980 he became a partner in a tennis ball manufacturing company at Ahmedabad. In 1985, returned to his native place Kumta, and started his own tennis ball manufacturing unit “PRASAD PRODUCTS”.

In 1992 he come across a well known flute artist and music director (drama) Mr. Suresh Bhat Kadatoka and learnt flute from him. From1994 he took special guidance from, Dr. Ashok Huggannavar, who is a famous Radio & T.V. Artist & B high grade vocalist. Under his 11 years of guidance he got more knowledge about various Gharanas and learnt how to give stage performances and about playing harmonium with Vocalists. 1995 He opened a music school in Kumta called “NINADA SANGEETA VIDYALAYA ®”. He was the founder & president of this school till 2006, which has given so many great vocalists, flutists and tablists. He got some knowledge about tabla from famous Radio & T V Artist & B High grade Tablist Prof. Gopalkrishna Hegde Kalbag. In his presidency time “NINADA” conducted big music programs yearly where honored great artist mainly Padmabhushana Dr. Gangoobai Hanagal , Pt. Sheshagiri Hangal , Pt. Sangameshwar Gurrav , Pt. Chandrashekhar Puranic Mat, Pt. S. M. Bhat Kattige, Pt. Narayan Pandit , Pt. Parameshwar Hegde Kalbag etc. Many students of “NINADA” participated and won prizes in state and national level competitions. Many have become radio artistes too.

M G Hegde himself is a harmonium artist and accompanied many well known artistes. Also he has performed all over the stage giving flute programs. He wrote many devotional songs which released in a cassette “ Devi Stuti” sung by NINADA team.

He has rendered his service in cultural and spiritual Institutions, Matts, temples etc as a leader, trustee etc. He is a advanced pranic healer and given his valuable services to the people.

    Finally worked in BHEL and took voluntary retirement to get recognition in music field.
